Srinagar, July 13 (KNO): Following the surge in the number of COVID cases, authorities on Monday re-imposed lockdown in many areas of Srinagar to prevent the deadly virus from spreading. In the last week, over 450 cases were detected in Srinagar district alone, thus prompting the administration to re-impose the lockdown in the areas, which were declared red zones. Witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that all the shops, business establishments and private offices remained closed in Srinagar district while the vehicular movement was also thin on the roads. Earlier, the relaxation was given by the authorities following the three-month-long strict lockdown. However, the decision to re-impose the lockdown was taken by the district administration after people from different sections including Doctors, traders and others demanded the re-imposition of lockdown following the spike in the number of COVID cases. Witnesses told KNO that many of the areas and roads were sealed by the authorities to thwart the movement of people. “The barricades were erected by the authorities in many areas while many bridges were also sealed by the authorities,” they said. It is worth to mention here that over 180 people have died due to the COVID-19 while over 10, 000 people have got infected to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
